Everyone thought that if they could help everyone, it would not always be possible to help everyone because our time, energy, and skills are limited. Sometimes, the number of people or problems needing attention can feel overwhelming. The important thing is to focus on where we can truly make a difference, understand our limits, and balance helping others with taking care of ourselves.
Any recruiter will agree when I say I wish I could reply to every LinkedIn message and cold email. I wish I had time to network with everyone who wants to connect and give feedback on every resume that comes my way. Let’s break down the daily KRAs of a recruiter: sourcing ideal candidates, scheduling interviews, building pipelines for urgent roles, engaging with stakeholders, and keeping track of ongoing interviews and their feedback. At the same time, recruiters need to manage a growing pool of candidates in the process, ensuring smooth communication and progress while actively connecting with new prospects. Additionally, they handle pending requests and respond to inquiries from candidates seeking suitable opportunities. We always strive to respond to everyone who reaches out to us, providing updates on the jobs we’ve posted and addressing their inquiries about opportunities. Many students frequently share their resumes, hoping to hear back about internship opportunities. While it may sometimes seem like we’re ignoring or ghosting them, that’s not the case it’s simply a matter of managing the overwhelming volume of requests. While we truly value every message and inquiry, it’s important to prioritise our core responsibilities to ensure we can deliver the best outcomes. Balancing sourcing top talent, advising hiring teams, and creating a seamless experience for candidates requires a significant amount of focus and dedication. Although we may not always be able to respond immediately, it doesn’t mean your outreach goes unnoticed. Our goal is to provide quality attention where it’s needed most to ensure fairness and excellence in the hiring process. Here’s where the question arises: how do we tackle this challenge and improve in this key area? Because, knowingly or unknowingly, this is also an important part of our recruitment process. At times, we find suitable candidates from this volume of requests, so this area cannot be overlooked. We can address this challenge effectively through consistent daily effort. Currently, this area isn’t part of our regular routine, but by adopting the following practices, we can ensure better management:
Allocate Dedicated Time:Â Set aside a specific time slot to review emails and LinkedIn messages at the beginning or end of the day.
Prioritize Responses:Â Focus on messages that require immediate attention or have high potential for valuable outcomes.
Set Realistic Goals:Â Aim to clear a manageable number of messages each day to prevent overwhelming backlogs.
Consistency Over Perfection:Â Even small daily efforts can make a significant impact over time.
By making these small but impactful changes, we streamline our processes and uphold the trust and expectations of those reaching out to us. After all, recruitment is not just about filling roles; it’s about building connections, nurturing potential, and leaving a lasting positive impression.
One message at a time, we can make a difference.
